Sun in the sky you know how I feel

What a beautiful day it's been. The sun has been shining all day and it's pretty warm outside. I think the worst is over and spring has finally begun! I woke up really late today and was feeling pretty tired from last night so I felt like lounging in the house all day, but thankfully forced myself to go outside and enjoy the sun!

Here's my outfit from the night before:

Shirt Forver21, jeans Dr denim, shoes Bianco

Today I finally decided to get a new phone. My old phone gave up and broke for the millionth time. I swear, that phone is like a cockroach...I've dropped it on the floor and gotten it wet so many times I've stopped counting and it's given up working multiple times but it always recovers in some miraculous way! This time the backlight stopped working so I thought, maybe it's time to buy a new one.

I'm a firm Apple supporter and really felt like buying the 4S, but instead I bought this one.

I also decided to check out this new outlet they opened near my house. It's called Oh My Gosh and they sell a lot of brands, including Converse, Dr. Martens, Lee, CTRL and Wrangler. The selection was pretty good and I found a top and a pair of jeans:

After I was done shopping I decided to try this class at my gym called Nike Training Club: Get strong!

They have these classes at my gym for a couple of months every now and then and I heard they're really tough so I wanted to see for myself. All I can say is oh my goodness! The class consisted mostly of different types of squats, planks and jumps. I can't remember the last time I was sweating that much but I'm definitely going to try it again.

I was so hungry when I got home so I decided to try this new recipe I found:

Sweet Potato Soup:

  •  2 yellow bell peppers
  • 1/4 celery stick
  • 1/2 parsnip
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • salt
  • cayenne pepper
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 200g paprika cream cheese
  •  1,5 l water

     On top:

  •  100g cashews
  • oil
  • chili powder
 Directions:

1. Peel and dice all the vegetables up.

2.Cut bell peppers in halves and remove seeds. Grill them (or use the grill setting in your oven) for about     20 minutes, or until the skin can be removed.

2. Fry the onions and the garlic until brown. Add all the rest of the vegetables, the lemon juice, spices and the water. Let boil for 30 minutes.

3. Puree everything & add cream cheese.

4. Fry cashews in oil, add chili powder.

I looove food!

Like many others, I loove food. i love different dishes, eating out at different places and trying out new foods. I also like to cook new dishes and I need to go cookbook shopping soon! I've been sick for a couple days now, which sucks for many reasons, but also because I don't really have an appetite! Here are some delicious dishes that I eat on a regular, almost weekly basis.

One of my favorite dishes ever! Lobster w/ dynamite sauce on top of california roll @ Sushi-Dan on Sunset. Delicious!

My outfit for Soho House...Fun night! Vest: H&M / Tank top:  some store on 3rd St promenade / Pants: Zara / Shoes: CL

Another fave dish of mine...Greek Chicken Salad @ California Pita. Organic, cheap and so good! My girl Laura and I always eat here after a workout or just for fun.

I love salads and this one is so easy and quick to make, so I make it often. Lettuce, cucumber, jumbo shrimp and avocado w/ pepper and lemon.

This is almost the same salad, but without the avocado and with some barbeque balsamic sauce.

Eating at Sushi-Dan once again. I cannot resist this dish!

Went out to Greystone Manor last Sunday...fun times with some Finnish girls and some FIDM girls.

Went out for dinner with some Finnish LA girls & one who was visiting LA a couple days ago... Shirt: H&M / Jeans: Robin's Jeans (my fave!)

Shoes: Grey suede pumps from some shop at Santa Monica Place

We ate at Aroma Cafe..Tilapia w/ eggplant, it's so taste-y!

My friends shared this delicious dessert...I had a spoonful too!

Felt like wearing this shirt to give me a boost, because I was feeling so un-winning today because of my flu! Unfortunately, it didn't really make me feel better lol.

I had a foot massage in the morning, I thought maybe some relaxation time would make me feel better.

5 Things I like about February

It's been a while and it's been a quite busy week and a half! School is back on (full schedule), Valentine's Day just passed and I've just been passing time with friends & fam :)

I love little house ornaments and found this item last week, had to get it:

I was shopping house stuff w/ my future mom-in-law and saw this..
5 Things I LOVE about February:

1. Valentine's Day
It's one of my favorite holidays and I love the "love in the air" -feeling. Especially in the US it is really popular and all the restaurants are full of couples celebrating this holiday. I also love chocolate, and that's associated with this day, so it's awesome!

2. It's the shortest month of the year
Even though winter is not real winter in California, I can't wait for the hot, summer weather, so the faster the winter goes by, the faster the summer can arrive!

3. Spring Semester begins
This is a good and bad things, but mainly good. Even though after a really relaxing Winter session at school, Spring semester feels really busy with a full schedule, BUT it's my last semester at my current school so I'm excited about moving forward in my scholarly journey!

4. Presidents' Day
Presidents' Day just passed here in the States, it was the 20th of Feb and it was a holiday, so no school and a lot of sales! I bought a lot of clothes for sooo cheap, which is great!

5. March is the next month
I'm just happy in general that it is March soon, because there are a lot of positive things happening in that month :)

Box of my favorite chocolate in the States....yummyyy<3

Sooo goooood!!!

Some more...

My Valentine's day nail color :) (this nail shop didn't do a good job :( )
This past week, I also decided to my own nails after the V-Day color got chipped after 2 days (argh! never going there again!) and washing my own hair (which is a process, because flat ironing is so annoying). I also did a mud mask and some soothing sea salt + hot water treatments on the skin.

Hungarian Mud
Sea Salt

My sulfate-free shampoos that I have to use because I did the Brazilian Blowout some months ago.

I'm so excited because before the Brazilian Blowout my hair was super frizzy and curly... Now this is what it looks like after I wash it and dry just a little BEFORE flat ironing... I wish I had a before picture to show how curly it was!

My nail color for this week.. I did it myself this time. With Lumene Party On underneath and O.P.I. Gold Shatter on top.

This is what it is supposed to look like with the Gold Shatter on top so I don't know what happened with the other nails

This is getting ridiculous!

Welcome to Finland! There's a snowstorm here and it won't stop snowing! The roads are so slippery it's pretty much suicidal to drive out there! It's final, I'm not leaving the house unless I have to...

Shrove Sunday

Whew! What a hectic week it was! I had night shift once again and it just flew by. The weeks just go by so fast it's almost scary. Anyway, a few days ago I caved in and bought a few new clothes and a pair of shoes (I'm trying to save money) but I think everyone should treat themselves every now and again, right? I know there's still a lot of snow on the ground but I couldn't help myself and bought stuff that's more suitable for warmer weathers.

From h&m

Matching! Haha.. And no, I didn't set this up I promise you, he just got curious.
The hat is from Bijou Brigitte and the shoes from Zara

I also finally finished Patisse's dress, so she came over last night to try it on. This is what the dress ended up looking like:

Finally done! Now I can move on to the next project (a white lace dress for myself and a shirt for my sister).

Yesterday I remembered that tomorrow is Laskiainen (Shrove Sunday) which meant I just had to bake laskiaispullia (buns that everyone eats on the holiday). I made half with Nutella whipped cream because for some crazy reason my brother doesn't like the normal kind, but they were really good too!

It's also a tradition to go sledging so maybe I should do that too! We're also celebrating by having a Stieg Larsson movie marathon with my friends. I have to see what the hype's about.

Gratitude

All of us have moments when we feel like life is unfair, stressful, painful, terrible, bad and many other negative adjectives. We all go through trials and tribulations, and all of us have some kinds of problems - some have smaller ones and some larger, everything is relative. Still, I think that if you have all your limbs, your sight and your hearing, you are MORE than blessed. Without health, life REALLY is harder. Without the newest trends or gadgets, hmm -not really that hard, don't you think?

A while back, I found this great picture on the internet. It is something I try to think about every day and especially at times when I feel like complaining about something petty.

The whole text from which this one came can be found on http://www.angelfire.com/hi/TheSeer/perspective.html on the bottom of the page. It's called "World Reality Check"...what a great title!

We should always try and remain grateful of the things we do have. I'm a firm believer that we can also attract things to our own lives - positive and negative. The book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne, is my favorite and I can never get enough of its message. One of my girls recommended the same author's "The Secret Gratitude Book" to me a while back and I finally bought it a couple weeks ago. I try to remember to write the things I'm grateful for in this little book every night. When you put you gratitude into the universe, you will continue to have things to be grateful about. Also, Ive been hearing about the "Power of Now" for the longest time and I finally bought it! Can't wait to really get into it.

My new Gratitude Book and a pen I bought from India

Here's a really amazing and touching video I saw a while ago: "She without arm, he without leg". Very inspiring.

Enjoy your weekend! :)
